 Grandparent's Day, September 9th
10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Granny's
Garden School

Keeping kids in touch
with nature
Children are invited to bring their grandparents and grandparents are invited to bring their grandchildren to the gardens to pick a bouquet.  Great grandparent's too!  E-mail Granny   if you plan to come.      The Grandmother Suit by Mary Ellen Smith
It is because of her grandchildren that Granny started the school garden program.  At the time, she was the "Granny Nanny" to her first two grandchildren (Nicole and Steven) while their parents worked.  Now 13 and 14 they were assistant leaders at one of the Victory Garden Camps this summer.  They love spending time with their younger cousins, Lainey and Evelyn (3 years and 18 months), passing on to them the things they learned from their grandmother.

Granny feels that grandparents have an important role to play in children's lives and treasures all of the years she spent with Nicole and Steven when they were younger.  Circumstances and distance prevent her from spending every day with Lainey and Evelyn.  However, she does carve out one day every week to spend with them.

A grandmother is a babysitter who watches the kids instead of the television.  ~Author Unknown
When a child is born, so are grandmothers.  ~Judith Levy

The Grandma Suit is cozy
  With room for extra care.
And yes, it is a little wrinkled
With gray or graying hair. The Grandma Suit

It's not a suit you go and buy.
Doesn't come "one size fits all"
And you won't find it at the store
  Or hanging at the mall.

 The Grandma suit is skinny
 It's fluffy, tall or short.
And it's made just right for hugging
 And games of every sort.

 The Grandma Suit is softest
 And its a perfect fit.
 For lullabies and stories
 Whenever Grandma sits.

So wash and wear that Grandma suit
 In chocolate chips and love
And know that every grandchild is
 A gift from God above.
