| Compost goes in the gardens. Mulch goes
on the paths. When we refer to compost, we are usually talking about
the pile of leaves located near the Hill Gardens behind
Loveland Elementary School. Each year, the city dumps truck loads
of leaves in this area. After sitting there for about
18 months, they
have turned into great compost that we put in the garden beds.
When we refer to mulch, we are talking about the
wood chips we use to mulch the garden paths.
Mulch piles are located near the Hill Gardens in behind Loveland Elementary
School. It is laid
on really thick, 6+ inches, to reduce weed growth and prevent muddy paths.
Classes and volunteers keep the
paths mulched. The paths should
be mulched late fall and again before school lets out for the summer.
If the paths are well mulched, there
will be few weeds around your beds.
When the activity calls for compost or mulch, we move
piles to garden locations.
