Dahlia row came about when we solicited dahlia growers for donations of tubers and received enough for each of our students to plant one. They planted the tubers in late April and picked the flowers all during the following fall.  After the first frost, they dug the tubers, which had multiplied many times over, and prepared them for storage.  We used the abundance of dahlias to increase student knowledge and understanding of plant science.
