Harvest Party

Mrs. Craig's 4th Grade Class

Mrs. Craig's 4th grade class spent much of the morning  in the gardens preparing for their harvest party.  They started out in the courtyard gardens where they pick broccoli, carrots and tomatoes.  As they pulled the carrots, Granny said, "Smell the carrot leaves.  They smell like carrots!"

Granny showed them how to pull leeks apart.  No one had ever tried them.  She said they taste like a mild onion and they've very expensive.  They were surprised at how many vegetables were in the gardens the last day of October.  Even tomatoes!

The part that amazed the kids most was picking apples from the apple tree.  Hardly anyone had ever noticed the apple tree though it is right in front of the school.  They declared these the best apples they had ever tasted!

As part of their Harvest Party, the class carved pumpkins and made gourd bird feeders.  Then they went back to their classroom where they feasted on veggies from the garden and healthy snacks..
