Do you have tomatoes in your garden?  What kind are they? Cherry (yellow or red)?  Roma?  Why do tomatoes crack?  Growth cracks occur as a result of the rapid growth stimulated by wet weather following a dry period. They fill up with water and become too large for their skin.  If it is okay with your teacher, each student may have one cherry tomato.  If there are no cherry tomatoes in your garden you may pick from a neighboring garden.
What is that insect that is all over the sunflowers.  It looks kind of like a firefly? It's a Goldenrod Soldier Beetle It is a good garden bug.  It does not bite or sting.  It is gorging on pollen.
Do you have green beans in your garden.  Are the leaves full of holes or the beans deformed?  Chances are the Mexican Bean Beetle has taken up residence in our garden.  Look at the underside of the leaves and you'll find eggs and/or larva. If the plants are in really bad shape, we pull them out and put them in the dumpster so the eggs will not hatch. If they are still producing beans, another option is to gently rub the leaf to crush the eggs. The option  the kids really like is to to pull of the affected leaves, take them to the parking lot and do the "insect stomp ."
