Making Maps

Making maps gives students a deeper understanding of how to read maps when they create their own.  We use map making to reinforce how to interpret symbols and the relative location of items on the map.  Students enjoy using compasses to label the compass rose and take care to use precision when they plot the location of items on the map.  We reinforce the idea that we are creating a map to help someone else find their way or locate a point of interest.
