Aztec Elementary School
"Our campus was built for gardening.  Each section of classrooms has its own courtyard and planting pods.  Teachers and students then build upon what is there to make various gardens come to life.  We have a Memorial Rose Garden, three cactus gardens, several square foot gardens and various theme gardens around campus.  Curriculum is centered on the gardens every other year in my classroom, meanwhile maintaining what is already in place.  Because we can garden morning, noon and night practically year-round, the curriculum expectations dictate what some of the activities will be.  For instance, next year we will study nutrition, classification systems, ecosystems and rocks and minerals so our work will be centered around these themes.  From planting bulbs, building birdhouses, sorting seeds or working with worms, we do it with love and anticipation!"
